Commentary

"Come, loved Israel, greet your bride; welcome the coming of Sabbath tide." This call to the Jew to welcome the Sabbath Queen as Israel's bride was composed in the Holy Land by Solomon Levi Alkabetz in the middle of the 16th century in Safed. His name appears in an acrostic opening the eight verses of the hymn that lead up to the final verse when Israel's Queen, the Sabbath bridge, is felt to be entering the doors of the synagogue.
